Creepy...

I didn't run today because of the tooth situation-I did go swimming though-I needed to get my pent up energy out-I may go to the gym late tonight. I don't like running on treadmills because it doesn't seem effective and throws me off balance when running outdoors, but it will have to make do because it's better than nothing. I also decided that I'm going to get all of my carbs from fruits, veggies, wild and brown rice, yams, and potatoes and decided that I need to stay away from rice pasta and gluten free breads. I adopted the latter two into my diet thinking they would help provide the energy that I need through hard training but decided that they are working against me and my efforts-and are making me sick. (Although, French toast sounds great right about now! But it's not worth the stomachache.)

So note to self: NO GLUTEN FREE BREADS AND NO RICE PASTA-NOTHING PROCESSED.

I had my tooth checked out early today. The dentist just stared at my x-rays and was baffled because she couldn't find anything seriously wrong (just that I have to get all three remaining wisdom teeth removed-go figure-there goes $500.00 that I don't have.)
She came to the conclusion that the infection that I had from my extracted wisdom tooth was still lingering. So now I need to figure out what I'm going to do about that before my tooth gets abscessed. I really don't want it to come down to that because I kind of like my molar right where it is and don't want to have to deal with recovery and all that stupid shit.

Oh, and I'm creeped because I got a small bottle of vodka and put a bit on a cotton swab and dabbed it around my tooth to numb the pain-and it did numb it...seriously, wtf? Why do people drink something that literally numbs and burns you? EH?! That just isn't right. I felt like an ass going into the fucking liquor store to buy a small 75 cent bottle of alcohol. Those stores are fucking sketchy and alcohol is fucking freaky and strange and I just don't understand why somebody would intentionally drink something that rots the body...anyway, this is a running blog and I'm WAAAY off topic!
More later...

i've found that fruit and wild rice work the best for me. sometimes, if i'm carb loading for a long run i'll eat wild rice with bananas and raisins. damn good, try it. the breads and pastas weigh my stomach down too much and i don't like feeling heavy when i'm running. after a run i'll eat some fruit with a bit of protein - if i'm lazy i'll drink an accelerade (sports drink with protein mixed in).

i was busy as hell preparing for court yesterday so i only did 5 miles at night. it feels really good to run in the woods at night, feels like you're invincible or something. once again folks driving by were probably weirded out. i need to start doing some nightime trail runs, but i'll have to watch out cuz my usual trail is right through bear country.

today i did 10 mi (69 minutes) on the fucking treadmill after court and lifted. running on a treadmill is definitely different - it uses slightly different muscles - but it's got its rhythm that you can get into. the main problem for me is that it's pretty damn boring and the runs on the treadmill seem long as hell especially if i look at the clock. the other gym i go to (there's 2 YMCAs here) at least has a window where you can look out on people in a gym down below, which provides some entertainment, but the gym i was at today just has boring-ass tv to look at.

so we just had this big, long ass conversation about dentistry today at dinner and then i see your post about your tooth. the tooth fairy must be sending psychic messages or something. damn, i should go brush my teeth right now. and floss. and mouthwash.

haha, you bought vodka! try it on your runs - i hear alcohol is a great way to train.

We need to order wild rice from you...does TD have some?
I love wild rice with dried fruit and orange slices (mixed with some lemon-orange juices and oil.)
I'll have to try it with bananas.
Yea, I'm staying away from the pasta and breads...they (not surprisingly) make me sluggish, sick, and bloated.

I'm not a big fan of those sports drinks. I got some Vitamin waters and sip on them before I go out for an energy boost...and I sip on them a bit when I get back from a run to replace any important essentials that were lost through sweat...but I stick to water mostly...I should just mix up a batch of lemon honey water with a few pinches of salt and use that for a booster.
I think I'm going to get some sort of powdered mix...
A few months back I was obsessed with learning about herbs and supplements that bodybuilders and endurance athletes use so I have all the knowledge in the world in that department. Funny, I was just learning that shit out of sheer curiosity and also for if and when I would become a PT. Now it will all come in handy for me! YIPS!
I have Oatstraw and shit like that and I'm debating getting some Gotu Kola-but don't know...too bad American Ginseng populations are fucked...
I also need to get more zinc in my diet-which won't be hard.
I'm stocked up on fruit. Melons work best for me. It is hard to find good organic produce down here...

One of the trails that I run goes through the woods and I run it at night. That's where I saw the fox and I always hear owls. The cicadas have been quietly buzzing too.
You should throw a deer hide over your shoulders and get naked and then go out for your nightly run...see what reactions you get then!!!

So how did the court case go? Did you get off?!!

Yea, treadmill running IS LONG AND BORING-I get to either look at ass, TV, a parking lot, or myself in the mirrors (which is sort of motivating!)
And when I do run on treadmills and then go outdoors and run it makes it feel like I have bricks tied to my legs and everything feels a bit awkward and uncomfortable when I go from treadmill to pavement.

You'll have to share what you all had to say about dentistry at dinner. I'm curious. I need to go out and get some Sumac berries to chew on for this fucking toothache. My mouth is really sore too and those should help. Teeth problems are scary. I plan to do a lot of research on what indigenous peoples did/do about their teeth because it seems like a lost knowledge for sure...

Yea, and, I'm sure alcohol would be good because it numbs you the fuck out! I would rather feel the burn and the pain! HAHA!
Alright, I just wrote a book...time to go eat, look at myself in a full body mirror, and pick ticks off my body-all of this at the same time!

t.d. has some rice for sale. but if you're coming up for the gathering I'll show you the place where you can buy in bulk 50lb bags. it's worth it. we get the broken grain.

the sports drink is convenient b/c you need to replace glycogen after a run and protein helps the absorption and prevents muscle wasting.

riding 60 miles is easy when you live in a place where you can go on back roads through the woods and hardly pass any cars. the route i took was the long way to the gym (normal route is about 20 miles each way).

i'm thinking of doing a naked run. i actually read about a naked 10k at a nudist colony. ha- i might laugh too hard to be able to finish that race.

i ended up doing a plea bargain for my ticket. i was hoping the cop wouldn't show up and the case would be thrown out, but the prosecutor was calling him on the cell phone cuz he wasn't there and then he showed up just in time. i was ready to grill the cop on the witness stand, and did a lot of studying on case law for radar, but the judge seemed to be a bit of a hardass. in one case before mine the defendant got so upset with the judge's ruling he was literally banging his head on the table. i decided not to risk it and plead to a lower fine with less points. still, moral of the story is never plead guilty to a traffic ticket.

oh and if you guys are coming up for traditional ways email joe@traditionalways.org to see about volunteering for reduced cost, and you need to register by the 15th so go the website and print the forms.

back to running: check out this article in the New York Times about running in the heat - good for you in 90 degree Georgia. The author, Gina Kolata, does a really good column called Personal Best, usually about fitness and often particular to running.

Another link for you - Joe Friel, the co-author of Paleo Diet for Athletes, has a decent blog mostly particular to triathlon training. I generally trust a lot of what this guy has to say, but it'll be a few years before I'm ready to try the tri.
