5 miles tonight (7.8.08). Ran it a bit slow. I was low on energy. I didn't eat much today, I'm bloated-which makes running uncomfortable, and I haven't been getting enough sleep...I think my monthly time is coming soon so this is consuming a lot of my energy and of course all the bloating...
Other than all that my run was great. It was a hot day today and the night was pretty warm...lightning filled the sky throughout my run and during my cooldown the rain started to drop. I ran late...I didn't get out the door until around 10:30ish (PM)...
I did stretch pretty good when I got home...that was good considering I skip out on stretching...
Okay, that's all for now...

Injury!...well it seems minor, at least right now. After Monday's run I noticed a soreness on the side of my left foot. I didn't think much of it. Then on Tuesday's run the pain was so bad I had to cut my run short (7 miles instead of 10 and only 2 fast miles instead of 4). Bummed. I rested all of yesterday - except for strength training - and I'll see how it is today on a 12 mile run that should be in a lightning storm (note - never wear your iPod on a run in a lightning storm).
Runner's World has a good tool for injuries . The best I can tell from it is that I probably rolled my ankle on one of my trail runs and strained my ankle or foot.
I needed the rest yesterday though I think. My legs started to feel heavy - as if they had weights attached. Even walking around was a bit of a chore. I wouldn't feel it when running - only when stopping. This is one of the classic signs of overtraining.
At least I don't have a period to worry about - at least a bloody one. I wonder if training will make you miss your moontime. I know it's the case with a lot of women athletes.
I'm torn about stretching (no pun intended). I tend to only stretch my hips (used in chi running). Otherwise I only stretch if I feel injury may be coming to an area. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to stretch the side of my foot.
So how is the foot? Have you tried running on it? After my runs I have been rubbing this NatraBio-The Arnica Rub-cream on my legs...it's for sore muscles and for injury treatment. I like it...I don't think you are to use it when not injured but I am anyway!!!
I'm worried about injury so I'm trying to do what I can to prevent it. I don't want stress fractures again...those suck and you HAVE to rest...I don't want nor need for that to happen. That is why I'm concentrating on stretching after my runs. To help stretch tightened muscles while they are warm...hamstrings are known for becoming tight-especially in runners-and eventually they can tear and cause all sorts of problems...
I also like to keep flexible so...I have a good reason to keep up with stretching now!
I'm going to start throwing some dynamic strength exercises into the mix too...that includes shit like hip rotations, knee rotations, and on...
I'll have to look into that heavy leg thing...exactly how does it feel? What are your legs supposed to feel like after a run?
Running with a bloody vag and a bulging cotton pad is def a bit uncomfortable but a girl has got to do what a girls got to do! The only thing that sucks is the lower energy levels...LAME!
I won't let it get to the point where my moon-cycle stops...if that happens I will cut back on my mileage. My monthly cleansing is most important to me...
Alright, let me know how the foot is doing. Hopefully it feels better. Look into that Arnica Rub...it could come in handy...I'm sure you can find some healing plants around the drum as well...
