So I signed up free for a 30 day challenge. All I have to do is run 100 miles total. Easy-as long as this tooth doesn't slow me down. And to think-there are people who run 100+ miles weekly...that's what I want to build up to! Fuck I'd be stoked to run 60-70 miles/week.
I'm going to follow this schedule for the challenge:
Week 1:
7-3 - 2m
7-4 - 4m
7-5 - 5m
7-6 - 3m
7-7 - 5m
7-8 - Rest
7-9 - 4m
=23m
Week 2:
7-10 - 2m
7-11 - 4m
7-12 - 5m
7-13 - 3m
7-14 - 5m
7-15 - Rest
7-16 - 4m
=23m
Week 3:
7-17 - 2m
7-18 - 4m
7-19 - 6m
7-20 - 3m
7-21 - 5m

Week 4:

I have had crazy tooth pain all day. I iced my cheek for an hour and that soothed the pain so I threw on my shoes and headed out for the trail. I got there late and didn't have much daylight. It was an awesome run. The trail is made up of mostly pine needles from all the Loblolly Pines down this way. It also has a good bit of roots, stumps, rocks, and broken tree branches. Certain parts have wooden walkways because of the swampy areas. In total the trail is 8.2 miles (it's one of the best places to find wild edibles down here too.)
I could have ran the entire thing if I had the light. I had to slow down on the last 1.7 miles because I couldn't see very well...I ran 3.4 miles in total.
So tonight I felt like I could have ran forever. There is nothing else like running through the woods. The air is fresher and the sounds of the night are motivating. I had fireflies light my path with their green glow, had little creatures on the path hop off and scurry into the forest. I also had a chorus of Cicadas sing me through the last of my run. I even heard a Cardinal singing. Never, until I moved down here, have I heard birds sing at night. It's the strangest thing. Most of the birds sing until the Sun is out of sight and the Mockingbirds will go at it all night long. It was odd for me when we first moved down here but I'm pretty much used to it now.
I also passed a ton of Oyster mushrooms but they were rotted to hell and back. I didn't even bother to track my time because I was enjoying my run too much and time didn't mean anything to me at the moment.
After my run I zoned out to the chorus of the night sounds and then my tooth decided to start throbbing again...so here I am now. Updating this with an ice-pack stuck between my shoulder and my cheek.

nice plan. i'm currently at between 60-70 mi/wk, but i'll be moving to 100+/wk in preparation for the ultra. i'm still going to have 1 day/wk for speed training on the track so that I don't lose the feeling of running at that level. after all i want to run boston in decent time in April and want to get in the top 3 overall for Journey's Marathon.
one of the articles by gina kolata was about how runners are more resistant to pain. running produces endorphins that ease the pain - so maybe that will help for your tooth.
i did a trail run yesterday too - about 13 or 14 miles total. kicked up a family of grouse and deer. it'd been awhile since I ran this overgrown, grassy trail and there are a lot more downed trees I had to climb over this time. ran in new shoes - new balance 790s - a lightweight trail shoe that feel pretty nice.
i'm thinking of doing some track speedwork tonight as the fireworks go off overhead. each little firework explosion will remind me how much the USA sucks and will motivate me to run a little harder to destroy civilization.
tim wants to wrestle but i know if i do that i'll be in pain for a week and wont want to run. so i'm encouraging everyone else to wrestle him and we'll put it on video.
I need to try out the track over at the college...I keep reading about how track runs should be included in training.
So did you run track and watch the fireworks?! Humans=loco! Somehow we get pleasure from watching colorful explosions in the sky.
Is Tim still big into fighting? Or is he done with it? And how has he been?
I might go to the track tonight and see what my fastest time is one time around the track.
Then I'm going to run it 4x and see what it is then.
It will be so much different to run that since it helps make you faster.
I usually do sprints on cement and in flat grassy areas...
