I might have ran a bit more than 2 miles. It might have been 2.5 miles...I'll have to check it out tomorrow. I do know that I did run 1 mile in 6-1/2 minutes-I wasn't trying-just happened to look at my watch at the 1 mile mark and was surprised at my pace.
But yea, not bad for having a full bladder the entire run and for having an upset stomach...I have had bad stomach problems for a week now. Today was really bad-so it's not getting better-good to know! There could be a number of reasons for the problem...I'm drinking ginger juice and tea, along with other herbal teas...I need to go out and collect some parts from the blackberry bush and make a tea out of that...
The question that I have for myself now is-could I hold a 6-1/2 minute pace during a long run?! Only time will tell! It feels like a comfortable pace...anyway, I'll worry about that more when I start doing 10+ mile runs...
Once again I waited until after 11 tonight to go for my run...but it was only around the hood...and it was good...and I'm a dork.

damn, it looks like you may be racing me. that'll be good to get a little competitive with the most competitive person I know!
i've found that stomach problems arise when I eat too soon before a run. Now I wait at least 2-3 hours after a meal to run. It's not always the case though - keeping a food journal can help uncover the culprit.
i feel like i'm barely recovered from sun/mon back to back long runs and now I have speed training today. my body is definitely meeting new stresses with this ultra training plan. i have lot of nagging soreness still, but i'm not thinking it's anything to worry too much about.
next week i'll be in nyc/nj and will run in central park - the belly of the beast, and the boardwalk. jaz will be there probably on a bike, mike tyson punchout style like we used to do in greensburg.
Hopefully I can keep that pace on longer runs...when you run races do you try to stick to one pace or do you go slow and then fast, slow then fast?
I figured out why my stomach is fucked...it isn't from running or food...I'm taking care of it now...
How is that foot? Have you been doing long runs again?
Training for an ultra is like starting all over again!!! Sort of...I have been reading about Active Isolated Stretching (AIS)...all you need is a rope and time after your runs...it's supposed to prevent injury...
I have been stretching after each run and I also include some dynamic strength exercises in...I'm going to get a good rope and start doing the AI-stretches...
I know that I push myself a little too much sometimes and so I'm trying to avoid injury...
HA! And speaking of competitive...you are WAY more competitive than me!!! I would say that I have met my match but you def are way more extreme!
HA! GBG days!!! I remember that. I fasted way too much back then...it made me so weak and I would get winded so easily...I remember going to karate and I would pretty much fall over and white out-all because of fasting...you can't mix activity with intentional starvation!!!
God, riding a bike was a chore at times...that is sad. Pointless fasting=DUMB!
Have fun on the east coast...I'm sure you will!
Some people go slow then fast in races, but I'm one of those people that stays at a fairly consistent pace. I'm amazed at people who all of a sudden go flying past you in the middle of the race or in late miles. I have wonder how they do it.
Ha, my stomach was fucked last week for a pretty gnarly reason. I had left my water bottle in my gym bag and forgot about it. When I used it two days later I didn't wash it and it had all sorts of mold in it. I didn't even realize until after the run.
My foot pain is bearable now, but now I have other pains and soreness in my legs. Frustrating. I've run through it though and did a 16.5 on Sunday, a 16.5 Monday morning and an additional 8 Monday evening. They were road miles though. Hopefully, this weekend I'll be doing a 2 hour trail run on Saturday and a 3 hour trail run on Sunday. For ultras time on your feet is generally more important than total miles. And yes, ultra training does feel like starting all over again. I remember feeling sore a lot when I started running last year - not quite as hard as this though.
I'm looking at AIS stretching as a possibility. Maybe you'll show me some if it when you come up here. There's some kind of massage stick called "the stick" that may help some things out. Also, alternating hot and cold water in the shower helps speed recovery. The pros take ice baths after hard workouts. Maybe I'll try that in Jersey- Jaz will get a kick out of that since we used to do snowbaths.
Well, maybe we egg each other on in competitiveness, which can be a good thing in running. And yes, no fasting when running. Food is at least half of the equation. Marathon runners often eat 3000+ calories/day and are still skinny as hell. I eat a bit more protein and less carbs than most marathoners which lets me keep on muscle - which isn't so much an advantage in terms of upper body for competitive marathoners but I ain't worried about that, at least not yet. :)
