So I decided to create this blog to record my workouts and to save sites that I find on the net...it's sort of weird writing to a machine but whatever...I consider this my personal online notebook and I'm probably going to be the one who reads it the most...
I took today off from all activity. Normally I would be hitting the gym to lift. Instead I have been reading a lot on running and trying to decide what schedule I want to follow. I plan to follow the one I have been following...running 4 days a week and lifting 3, with one rest day in between. After 6 weeks I plan to run more days and more mileage-I'm going to use a half-marathon training schedule. November will be my first race - it will be a 5k with hills (http://races.zoomarun.com/atlanta.html). I have already incorporated hills into my running. I live around several. I wish to be back in PA because there is no end to hills and mountains and where I'm from would be the perfect place to train. But I have to make do with what I have now. So far the temps down this way aren't too out of control but I'm waiting...I'll probably have to train very early and late once they do soar. And they will.
I'm stoked to have 4 routes (plus the gym) to run around here. I love running trails but plan to do a lot of running on cement to get my legs adjusted to the extra stress...I ran a new route yesterday and LOVED it. I believe it is a total of 12 miles. I have been driving around with the car to get accurate mileage of each path that I run.
I ran 3 miles yesterday in 20 minutes (it could have been a bit less.) And I'm stoked on that. I'm not a newbie to running but I am to races and training for them. I'm ready for the ups and downs and I def have a lot of training ahead of me. I'm thinking it might be a better idea to run a marathon fall 09. I'll have to see where I'm at this fall and decide later. I've been reading that it is best to do it after a year of training and running smaller races. We'll see. I still have to write Survival International to see if I can run for them...

i bet this blog is going to end up being a lot of you and me being running nerds - discussing training, tips, races and shit. oh well, it'll be a good way to keep us motivated.
i ran last night on forest roads at like 11pm with a headlamp to avoid deer flies and have cooler temps. there were actually cars out cuz a lot of people are out camping this week. they all probably thought i was some kind of ax murderer or something. a few cars slowed down when they saw me and then sped away when i passed.
so use that google tool to calculate mileage. it's cheaper than driving around and wasting gas, although the latter method may help bring on peak oil if it aint here already.
i've gotta say 3 miles in 20 minutes is damn impressive. the women's world record for a 5k is just barely under 15 minutes. and that's on a track.
check out this tool for predicting race performance. you're supposed to base it off of a one mile all out test run. it's not as good as the mcmillan running calculator, but still useful.
hills are awesome because they strengthen your quads which are the main muscles used for making you go fast. so hills definitely pay off any way you can get them in. they also help teach good running form since they force you to lean forward a bit from your ankles to maintain your center of gravity.
E, I'm stoked that you are now my online running mate-comrade-buddy! HAHA! Too bad we live so far apart...like 2 days of driving worth...damn you!
I don't mind nerding out one bit with you. It will definitely help keep me motivated because we all know I'm not the type who sees projects through. I live in my head too much...
Where's your blog? Get on it! I want to hear your thoughts and hear stories of your runs...
Oh, and, aren't you an ax murderer? If not, we could get started on that road together! Running ax murderers! Sounds great to me! HAHA!
yesterday was a good day. i biked 60 miles, ran 7 in under 47 minutes, lifted and ate well. then today i thought it'd be a great idea to eat a bunch of cookies and today i feel like shit and have a sore knee (from biking i think, not running). go figure.
so,yeah, relay team for laurel highlands. that sounds fun as hell. there's some people running here at the school now who could be interested (one is from West Virginia and maybe will be interested to visit family while there). my brother is getting into running now too. somehow you never met him. we could ask anton krupicka, in order to have a black and green running team, but he could probably run the whole thing faster by himself than with a team! the best option would be if some more buds got into running. very possible.
we'll see if i get motivated enough to start my own blog. for now, i'll just use yours.
How strange that biking put that much stress on your knee...did you bike rough terrain? It could have been everything all together. Be sure to give yourself rest! You should become a stronger swimmer and then go for the Triathlon. I think you could do it.
Damn though, you put a lot of mileage in yesterday! I'm sort of envious! I'm bummed that I took advantage of my free time when I didn't work all those years! I could have done so much. I put too much time into cleaning!
Yea, we totally need more friends to get into running. I keep telling Kevin to start but he doubts himself too much plus he has other projects going on...
But I'm totally into doing that group 70 miler - we have to make this happen...Kevin could be the one who drives us all to our stations...
